Adam Sweet - A brief history of me
I have done a lot of things in my life, and somehow ended up on a couch in Prague, writing a webpage about myself.
I'm originally from Walnut Creek, California; born not long after Ronald Reagan became President of the United States. Not much happened in my life until my last year of high school, when I took a class trip to London, and not only fell in love with the city, but also with Europe and traveling. I knew then that I would not be able to live my entire life in America.
During college, I once again returned to London, this time for a semester, and also traveled around Europe a bit. I learned to drink warm beer, eat cold fish, and enjoy the perfection that is a zero-zero tie in soccer.
I returned to the States and finished my Bachelor's Degree in History at the California State University in Sacramento. Various times during my seven years of college (in which I miraculously did not become a doctor) I worked as an Assistant Manager at a Papa Murphy's, A pizza delivery guy for both Pizza Hut and Round Table (Round Table is better), a Cutco knife salesman, a waiter at a burger joint, a hardware expert at OSH, and a nuclear physicist. If Denise Richards can do it, I can do it.
After finishing college, I got bored and decided to head to Prague, in what many people thought was still Czechoslovakia and pursue TEFL teaching. I got a Trinity CertTESOL from Prague Schools in 2006, and then worked at Caledonian School in Prague for the next three and a half years. I had only intended to stay for three months, but Prague does that to you. After a merger changed the school, I decided to do something different. Totally different.
I partnered up with Isaac Starobin, and somehow we managed to open up a bar in Prague. For two years I was the co-owner and manager of the Dirty Dog Bar, which, in its heyday, become quite successful. It was a lot of fun, but eventually I just wanted to take a break from cleaning vomit, smelling like beer, and working 14-hour days, and I left the bar business.
Now I am a freelance writer and have returned to do a bit of English teaching again, currently working on my own, and for Tandem Language School. When I'm not doing any of those things, I write for fun, read, watch movies, golf (If I ever get my clubs from the States), eat fine foods, and travel to exotic destinations like Albania, Russia, and Missouri.
